Erma Ruth Height

Erma Ruth Height died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.

She was born October 7, 1926, in Sullivan, Ill., the daughter of the late Charles Harry and Adaline Belle (Aiken) Voyles. She married Elvin A. Height, who preceded her in death on September 28, 2003.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy S. (Robert) Raser of Parma, Mich., Linda M. Cosgrove of Jackson, Mich., and Brenda J. (David) Cullen of Van Wert; two stepdaughters, Penny R. Thompson of Van Wert and Carolyn K. (Tommy) Firestien of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Three sons, Courtney J. Cosgrove, Elvin A. Height and Patrick W. Height; three grandsons; three sisters; and a brother, also preceded her in death.

She had been employed for more than 30 years by the former Phillips Lighting plant and retired in 1988. She loved family life with all of her grandchildren and will be long remembered for her storytelling. She also received a great amount of enjoyment from sitting on her porch watching birds, especially hummingbirds and cardinals.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Steve Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 13, at the funeral home.
