David Arthur Horner

David Arthur “Salty” Horner, 71, of Van Wert, died at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born May 11, 1942, in Indianapolis, Ind., the son of the late Ward L. and Mary K. (Caldwell) Horner. His former companion, Donella Lynn Cornelius, died September 17, 2003.

Survivors include a son, Josh Horner of St. Marys; two sisters, Susan Jane Tomberlin of St. Marys and Mary Lou Roby of Spencerville; five stepdaughters, Michele Contreras, Lisa Kline and Kimberly (Josh) Bates, all of Van Wert, Christy Kline of Indiana and Casey Cornelius of Paulding; a stepson, Rory Bigelow of Grover Hill; 11 stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Ward Horner and John Horner; and a sister Janna Taylor, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 18, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor James C. Burns officiating. Military honors will be performed after the services by the combined honor guard of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both of Van Wert.
