Iylene P. ‘Pat’ Pancake
Iylene P. “Pat” Pancake, 90, of Van Wert, died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014, at her residence.
She was born December 30, 1923, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Howard Leslie and Almeda (Stout) Kennedy. She married Kenneth A. Pancake, who preceded her in death on April 7, 2012.
Survivors include three children, Michael A. (Pauline) Pancake of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Leslie D. Pancake of South Whitley, Ind., and Patti A. (Steve) Keister of Van Wert; a daughter-in-law, Debra Pancake of Puyallup, Wash.; a sister, Ruth Roth of Monroe; nine grandchildren, Heather, Rachel, Rebecca, Michelle, Katy, Megan, Colleen, Christian and Kenna; and three great-grandchildren, Noelle, Preston and Avaleen.
Two sons, Robert Clark Pancake and Howard William Pancake; a brother, William Kennedy; and five sisters, Francis Gillen, Grace Williamson, Edna Hite, Bernice Linser and Margaret Jane Ditto, also preceded her in death.
Pat was an artist and a musician. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Convoy, where she served as organist for many years. She was a member of Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert, had a passion for teaching art and music and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Convoy, with Rev. Doug Meyer officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy, with military honors performed by the combined units of Van Wert and Convoy American Legion posts and Van Wert Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803.
Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Friday, January 31, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Preferred memorials may be directed in Pat’s name to The Van Wert County Foundation for Wassenberg Art Center or to Community Health Professionals-Hospice.
