Twp. trustees endorse county ED program

The Van Wert County Board of Commissioners recently got some unexpected support for their economic development efforts.

According to Commissioner Thad Lichtensteiger, the Van Wert County Township Association’s Executive Committee unanimously adopted a resolution supporting the commissioners “in their endeavors to secure and maintain an effective, working economic development program for Van Wert County.”

Lichtensteiger said he first heard about the unsolicited resolution from Township Association President Jeff Harmon.

“(Harmon) called me when were having some discussions about the direction of economic development and asked if they could give us a resolution endorsing our position on economic development,” Lichtensteiger noted, adding, “It’s nice to get some affirmation, especially from a credible source like this.”

The county commissioner said it was a nice gesture from a group that has not always seen eye-to-eye with the commissioners on past issues.

“We were flattered that they would lend us their support,” he added.

Although the resolution includes the normal verbiage, the township trustees noted in the document that: “the Van Wert County Commissioners are implementing initiatives to build a strong and viable economic development plan that will attract new industry, as well as enable local companies and industry to invest in growth and expansion in Van Wert County.”

The resolution came out of a meeting held by the association’s Executive Committee on January 21.
