Snowstorm results in delays, closings

Several more inches of snow have been dumped on Van Wert County, forcing schools to close and resulting in a Level 2 Road Advisory being issued in Paulding County.

All three Van Wert County school districts are closed today, while Paulding County Sheriff Jason Landers issued a Level 2 Road Advisory for his county. The advisory means that roadways are hazardous, with blowing and drifting snow, and most roadways could be icy.

Sheriff Landers urges anyone driving to leave early and allow plenty of time to arrive at their destination.

Roads are also blowing and drifting in Van Wert County, but Sheriff Thomas Riggenbach only issues a snow emergency when non-emergency travel is prohibited. That has not happened so far today.

Also, the City of Van Wert, which was running low on salt, has purchased an additional 100 tons from the Ohio Department of Transportation. In turn, ODOT is  purchasing additional salt to increase its emergency inventory.

First Federal Savings & Loan and Van Wert Federal have moved back their opening time to noon.

First Financial Bank is set to open at 10 a.m.

Van Wert County Hospital announces that the Gaylord E. Leslie Wellness Center will open at 9 a.m., while Van Wert Medical Services is opening at 10 this morning. The sleep center is closed. Liberty Baptist Church has canceled all activities for this evening, as has First Baptist Church.

Calvary Evangelical Church canceled all studies and activities today.

Brumback Library has announced that its village branches will be closed today, while the main library will close at 5 p.m.

Buckeye Youth’s Valentines for Vets event scheduled for this evening is canceled.
