Roger Dean Brown

Roger Dean “Birddog” Brown was born in Middle Point to the late Allen and Alta (Long) Brown on April 12, 1941. On December 23, 1961, he married Ellen (Donahue) Brown, who survives in Middle Point.

He is also survived by a daughter, Christina Brown of Middle Point; one brother, Tom (Sandy) Brown of Grover Hill; and sisters Mary Paxson, Susan (Ron) White, both of Van Wert, Betty Booher of Grover Hill, Lucille Granger of Troy, Ruby (Joe) Delpico of Springfield and Marcille Fruchey of Killen, Texas.

Other survivors include special friends Jim and Mona Kennedy, Donnie and Pam Eversole, and Sherrie Friedrich.

A son, Randy Brown; a son-in-law, John Brown; brothers Laurence, Richard, Gale, Carl “Bus” and Harold Brown; Dennis Robey; and sisters Peg Anderson, Rose Sherman and Nancy Falke, also preceded him in death.

Roger was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having been stationed in Seoul, South Korea, and Fort Hood, Texas. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 and a member of American Legion Post 178, both in Van Wert. He also was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Middle Point.

Roger had worked at the former Harold Balyeat Coal Yard in Van Wert, the former Continental Can Company in Van Wert and, for many years, at the former Kennedy Manufacturing Company in Van Wert. He also enjoyed helping out the Middle Point Fire Department.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 16, at Brickner Funeral Home, with Wayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in King Cemetery in rural Van Wert County, with full military honors performed by the combined honors unit of Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Saturday, February 15, at the funeral home.
