Young musicians get chance to perform

A number of talented Van Wert County musicians performed Sunday afternoon during the 11th annual Van Wert County Young Artists Recital held in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert.

High school musicians from Van Wert, Lincolnview and Spencerville got the chance to show off their talents during the annual event, sponsored by The Van Wert County Foundation and First UM Church.
Among those performing were the following:
Chance Burnett, a senior at Lincolnview, who sang “The Vagabond” by Ralph Vaughn Williams.
Katlyn Wendel, a freshman at Lincolnview, who played “Wedding Day at Troldhaugen” by Edvard Grieg on the piano.
Michael Garay, a senior at Lincolnview, who played “Contest Etude No. 1” by Ostransky on his baritone saxophone.
Lexi Billingham, a senior at Van Wert, who performed Goedicke’s “Concert Etude” on trumpet.
Braxton Matthews, a sophomore at Lincolnview, who performed “Vittorio, mio core” by Carissimi.
Alex Green, a sophomore at Van Wert, who performed “Andromeda” by Beethoven on French horn.
Lydia Engh, a senior at Spencerville, who played “Sonata Opus 2, No. 1” by Beethoven on piano.
Sarah Riley, a Lincolnview senior, who performed “Menuett” by Kulau/Buchtel on tenor saxophone.
The VWHS Mixed Ensemble (Liz Keirns, Sandy Nguyen, Alicia Miller, Kory Schlatter, Korbin Schalois, Cade Chiles and Jakob Schaufelberger), which performed “Climbin’ Up the Mountain” by William H. Smith.
Valerie Barnhart, a freshman at VWHS, who sang “Per La Gloria D’adorarvi” (For the Glory of Adoring You) by Bononcini.
LeAndryce Miller, a sophomore at VWHS, who played “Spirit Dance” by CW von Gluck on flute.
James Defore, a junior at Van Wert, who sang “Ride On, King Jesus” by Johnson.
Olivia Morris, a home-schooled senior from the Lincolnview district, who played “Sonatina, Opus 13, No. 1, by Kabalevsky on piano.
The Lincolnview Men’s Vocal Ensemble (Chance Burnett, Skyler Whitaker, Taite McKinney and Braxton Matthews), which sang “Bound for Jubilee” by Eilers.
Teachers participating included Anna Baker and Stacie Korte at Lincolnview, Tina Decker, Julie Reichert and Bob Sloan at VWHS, and private teachers Annette Hoverman and Jake Wilder.
Accompanists were Marilyn Alessandrini, Hoverman and Wilder.
