Betty L. Baer

Betty L. Baer, 89 of Middle Point, died at 10:48 a.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

She was born April 14, 1924, in Van Wert, the daughter of the late Frederick and Julia (Schumm) Buechner. On May 6, 1944, she married Ronald D. Baer, who also preceded her in death.

Survivors include four children, Lynn (Sharon) Baer of Van Wert, Bruce (Pattie) Baer of Middle Point, Ronna (Dave) Kyle of Peachtree City, Ga., and Babett (Russ) Franck of Lake Wakes, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Clair Buechner and Russell Buechner; and a grandchild, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Baer was a homemaker and had also worked at Central Insurance Company and Carl Wright Truck Stop in Van Wert. She also worked alongside her husband for many years on the farm. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert and the Ladies Guild of the church.

Betty was a member of the Van Wert High School graduating class of 1942. She was a member of the Red Hats Society, an avid sports fan, and attended many sporting events in the area. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 27, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Philip Zielinski officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
