Local Lincoln Highway group gives book
Lincoln Highway Association information
Larry Webb, president of the Western Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association, presented a copy of Brian Butko’s book, The Lincoln Highway, Photos through Time, to the Brumback Library. The Ohio Lincoln Highway League donated the book.

Butko has written several books on the Lincoln Highway and this one is a visual experience of the first transcontinental highway.
In 1913, the proclamation of the Lincoln Highway stated the purpose of the Lincoln Highway Association was “to immediately promote and procure the establishment of a continuous improved highway from the Atlantic to the Pacific, open to lawful traffic of all description, without toll charges and to be of concrete wherever practicable.
Webb pointed out that the Lincoln Highway was, and still is, an important piece of Van Wert County history. There are several photographs of places in the county found in Butko’s book. Those wanting to purchase a personal copy of the book may do so at www.lincolnhighwaytradingpost.com.
As president of the newly formed Western Ohio Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association, Webb invites those interested in the history and preservation of the highway to attend the orgnization’s next meeting, which will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in the Delphos Postal Museum. Dinner will be served and those planning to attend should RSVP Webb at 419.203.5779 by March 14.
Anyone wanting to become a member of the Western Chapter may do so by sending $10 in care of Webb, 6831 John Brown Road, Van Wert, OH 45891. Area residents are also encouraged to include their email addresses.
