C’view board hears student presentation

CONVOY – The Crestview Local Board of Education heard students talk about Northwest Conference sportsmanship videos and also listened to teacher Kristie McCormick tell about a recent technology educational meeting she attended.

Superintendent Mike Estes also talked about the necessity to have classes on Saturday to make up calamity days lost because of inclement weather, while also noting three expiring administrative contracts: Middle School Principal Dave Bowen, Elementary Principal Kathy Mollenkopf and Program Services Director Keith Rydell.

Estes also noted that the Vantage All-Boards Dinner would be held Thursday, April 3, starting at 6 p.m., at Vantage, and asked that any board member wanting to attend should let him know.

Principals mostly talked about testing during their reports to the board.

Also on Monday, the Crestview board accepted the resignation of two retiring staff members, middle-high school special education teacher Connie Moser, who is retiring after 18 years in education, 13 of those at Crestview; and cook Joy Schaadt, who has served 19 years in the district.

The board also accepted the resignation of Ruth Monnier, a high school-middle school teacher who is leaving after a year in the district.

Board members also approved a contract with Lori Orsbon as district administrative assistant and also approved several supplemental coaching moves. The board approved Joy Short as girls’ soccer head coach, Morgan Hicks as seventh grade softball coach, Tony Springer as a volunteer high school baseball coach and Meghan Henry as a volunteer seventh grade volunteer softball coach.

In other action, the board:

  • Learned that Heather Riggenbach will be reassigned to the position of high school secretary, effective March 3.
  • Approved the settlement agreement with ACI Construction Company Inc. and WM&T LLC, as presented.
  • Authorized the purchase of a school bus from Cardinal Bus Sales, at a cost of $85,112, with trade-in and discounts.
  • Approved the Crestview Indoor Track Club as a club sport, under the Ohio High School Athletic Association, and approved James Lautzenheiser as volunteer coach for the sport.
  • Authorized a family leave for Sarah Brenneman as part of her maternity leave, beginning in early March.
  • Announced that parents can provide recommendations or suggestions for special education programs and services. Those interested in providing recommendations can contact Rydell at the school, 419.749.9100.
  • The next regular meeting of the Crestview Local Board of Education will be at 6 p.m. Monday, March 17, in the district boardroom.
