The Van Wert County Board of Commissioners had a busy day on Tuesday, talking with a number of people in a series of meetings and conference calls throughout the day.

The day began with a meeting with Twyla Hayes of Rockford-based Brand-It Marketing Communications, who made a presentation showing what her company could provide in the way of a new county website, something the commissioners have been looking at for a month or so.

Common Pleas Clerk of Courts Cindy Mollenkopf also met with the commissioners on a plan to paint and install new carpet in her offices as part of a renovation project. A partition will also be installed in the future to provide better security in the office, according to Commissioner Todd Wolfrum.

Also Tuesday, the commissioners held a telephone conference call with Steve Irwin of the Ohio Power Siting Board on the question of whether a decommissioning bond was needed by Iberdrola for roadwork related to its wind farms in the county.

According to Irwin, the state’s decommissioning process for wind turbines covers roads as well, so no road bond would be needed. Also attending that meeting were Union Township trustees and Dan Litchfield of Iberdrola Renewables.

Pleasant Township Trustee Greg Germann also met with the commissioners on Tuesday to talk about a request from the City of Van Wert to annex the railroad spur leading to the city’s Jobs Ready Site north of Van Wert.

“We had some talks on that, but kind of left it on the table on how to proceed,” Wolfrum said, noting that more research is needed on the issue.

Van Wert Solid Waste Management District Manager George Brake also met with the commissioners to discuss designation of waste facilities as sites where trash can be transported from the county. The commissioners approved a list of 13 sites as designated waste facilities.
