VWHS Quiz Bowl teams compete

The Van Wert High School Quiz Bowl team has had a great couple of days competing. Monday the team traveled to Lima Bath to participate in the Bath NAQT Tournament. Finishing 4-1 in regular round play, the Cougars went into the final and defeated Bath 235 to 35. In addition to the team championship, Daniel Perry was given special honors as the top individual scorer of the tournament and Chris Kraner and Quinton Rutkowski received top eight scoring honors as well. Also participating that night were Nick Gorman, Daniel Wray, Andrew Price and Kiley Wortman.
The team continued the competition trail on Tuesday with an all day tournament to Wright State University Celina. Van Wert had two teams competing on the day. The Van Wert B team consisting of Brady Place, Brock Berry, Nick Gorman, Daniel Wray, Zen Collins and Rick Eberle, finished in the middle of the 40-team tournament with 97 points on the day. The Van Wert A team showed its top performance during the day and finished up with close to 150 point, just seven points behind first place Elida. The team’s second-place finish out of 40 teams is exceptional. The team

consisted of Chris Kraner, Daniel Perry, Dillon Baer, Kiley Wortman, Andrew Price and Rachel Davis.

The team has earned a trip to the Regional Quiz Bowl Tournament in Tiffin on April 12.
The NAQT wins (both Bath and Crestview) have earned them a bid to Small School Nationals in St. Louis.
