VWHS swim team has awards banquet

VWHS swim team information

The Van Wert High School swim team recently held its end of the season awards banquet. Head Coach Kim Clifton, along with assistant coaches Martha Martin, Angie Stemen, Brendon Moody and Keith Rydell, honored eight senior Cougars:  Eric Easley, Andi Foster, Holly Hammond, Adam Jurczyk, Karlyn Koontz, Jacob Scheidt, Daniel Silette and Kiley Wortman.

Most Valuable Swimmer awards were presented to junior Hannah Stemen and senior Eric Easley.   Peyton Fleming and Nick Gorman were named Most Improved Swimmers.

A total of 28 swimmers maintained a 3.0 grade point average during the season and received scholar-athlete awards. They include Mackenzie Agler, Eric Easley, Sam Easley, Bethany Fast, Cade Fleming, Peyton Fleming, Andi Foster, Katlyn Freeland, Chloee Gamble, Allie Hall, Holly Hammond, Nathan Ireland, Adam Jurczyk, Karlyn Koontz, Landrie Koontz, Joe Linser, Olivia Mengerink, LeAndryce Miller, Ali Moreland, Josh Overholt, Maddy Pauquette, Isaac Rager, Haley Richardson, Jacob Scheidt, Kory Schlatter, Hannah Stemen, Katie Trittschuh and Kiley Wortman.

Eric Easley received honors for his school record in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke, and Western Buckeye League, sectional, district, all Lima area First Team and All Ohio honors. Sam Easley was recognized for breaking the 100-yard butterfly school record and receiving sectional honors.

All Lima area winners were Sam Easley (Special Mention), Adam Jurczyk (Honorable Mention), Jacob Scheidt (Honorable Mention), and Hannah Stemen (Honorable Mention).

Varsity letters were also presented. Fourth year: Eric Easley; third year: Holly Hammond, Adam Jurczyk, Karlyn Koontz, Josh Overholt, Dan Silette, Hannah Stemen; second year: Mackenzie Agler, Cade Fleming, Andi Foster, Tyler Rex, Kory Schlatter, Jacob Scheidt; first year: Sam Easley, Bethany Fast, Peyton Fleming, Landrie Koontz, Isaac Rager and Katie Trittschuh.

Participation awards were given to Josh Fowler, Katlyn Freeland, Chloee Gamble, Nick Gorman, Allie Hall, Nathan Ireland, Meagan Jacobs, Skylar Lehman, Joe Linser, Olivia Mengerink, LeAndryce Miller, Ali Moreland, Madison Pauquette, Olivia Profit, Jena Rex-LaRue, Haley Richardson, and Erika Strawser.

Hannah Stemen, Mackenzie Agler and Kory Schlatter will serve as swim team captains for the 2014-2015 season.
