Mary Louise Fortney, 86, of Convoy, died at 9:51 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born January 6, 1928, in Monroeville, Ind., the daughter of the late Donald and Mazie (Clevenger) Baker. On November 15, 1947, in Dixon, she married Morgan Lucius Fortney, who preceded her in death on March 15, 2011.

Survivors include two sons, Rex (Beverly) Fortney of Van Wert and Gary (Tamara) Fortney of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Theresa (Dennis) Sites of North Manchester, Ind.; one brother, Donald “Jake” Baker of Convoy; two sisters, Patricia Fralick of Convoy and Joan Pierce of Monroeville, Ind.; six grandchildren, Rhonda (Craig) Smart, Jeremy Sites, Laura (Josh) Gross, Ryan (Kristy) Fortney, Justin Fortney and Brianna Fortney; and four great-grandchildren.

A brother, Paul Baker, who died in the Korean War, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Fortney retired from Aeroquip (Eaton) Corporation in Van Wert. She was a member of Countryside Chapel United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the Ladies Group, as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and many other positions. She was a 1946 graduate of Hoaglin High School.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, March 31, at Countryside Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Van Wert County, with the Rev. Wayne Kargas officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

Calling hours are from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, and an hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Preferred memorials: Countryside Chapel United Methodist Church.
