State donates to smoke detector project
Submitted information
Ohio State Fire Marshal Larry Flowers announced his support for the Van Wert County fire chiefs’ “No Child Sleeps Unprotected” smoke detector fund drive. The goal is to purchase over 4,000 smoke detectors, one for every child in Van Wert County in grades kindergarten through 12th grade.
Marshal Flowers dispatched Prevention Bureau Assistant Chief Richard Palmer to present to the local fire chiefs his support for the program: 84 smoke detectors with 10-year batteries.
The fire chiefs seek to raise $60,000 before the 2014 Fire Prevention Week in October. Tax-deductible donations can be sent directly to The Van Wert County Foundation, c/o County Smoke Detector Fund, at 138 E. Main St. in Van Wert, or to any Van Wert County fire department, which will deposit the funds.
