Van Wert independent sports
Although he allowed Lincolnview’s only run on a passed ball in the first inning, Cougar pitcher Brant Henry settled down quickly to pitch a no-hitter against the Lancers in an 11-1 non-conference victory for Van Wert.
Offensively, Sean Miller was 3 for 3 with three RBI, while Justice Tussing hit three doubles to go 3 for 4 and add 3 more RBI. Nate Stoller was 2 for 4 with three RBI, while Mason Carr and Gavin Gardner were 2 of 3 with one RBI apiece.
Henry walked three batters, while striking out six to earn the win for the Cougars. Lincolnview’s Austin Leeth took the loss, giving up 10 runs on 12 hits, while walking three and striking out four batters.
The Lancers led 1-0 until the bottom of the second inning, when Van Wert put four runs across the plate for a 4-1 advantage. The Cougars added five more runs in the third inning and one run each in the fourth and fifth innings. The game was called at the end of the fifth because of the 10-run rule.
