YWCA gets grant from Ohio A-G’s Office

COLUMBUS — In honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has awarded nearly a dozen Ohio crime victim service agencies with funding to promote the resources available to victims of crime.

Ten agencies will share a total of nearly $10,000 to fund awareness campaigns throughout the week.

“We are pleased that we are able to assist these agencies to promote the valuable services that they provide and assist those who have been victimized,” said DeWine. “My office is dedicated to helping victims and their families in the aftermath of violent crime.”

The YWCA of Van Wert County was one of 11 agencies awarded grants of between $870 and $1,000 each.

The goal of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, which began Sunday and runs through Saturday, is to support crime victims and raise awareness of victim issues across the country.

The Attorney General’s Crime Victim Services Section provides compensation to eligible crime victims and their families through the Ohio Victims of Crime Compensation Fund.  Since its creation in 1976, the fund, which can pay for medical expenses, lost wages, funeral costs, and similar expenditures, has paid out more than $341 million, including $8.8 million in 2013.
