WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Bob Latta (R-Ohio) issued the following statement after voting in support of H. CON. RES 96, The Path to Prosperity, which establishes the budget for the 2015 fiscal year.

“Today, the House took an important step to address our country’s long-term fiscal future by passing a budget for the 2015 fiscal year,” said Latta. “With a $17.5 trillion national debt, Washington must change course and make the tough decisions to rein in the federal government’s out-of-control spending.

“Hardworking Americans expect a responsible, balanced budget that focuses on economic growth, promotes job creation and strengthens national defense,” Latta added. “The budget we passed today not only addresses the key drivers that have led us down this unsustainable path, but also creates a clear framework to get this country back on a path to prosperity.”

The House’s 2015 fiscal year budget cuts more than $5 trillion in spending and balances the budget over the next 10 years by shrinking the federal government and growing the economy. In addition, the legislation increases defense spending by $483 billion, enabling the country to better defend itself from ongoing threats to national security.

Next, it provides U.S. troops the training, compensation and support they both need and have earned in service to this country. It also provides American families with a fair, simpler tax code to boost wages and create jobs.
