VW boys’ tennis team beats St. Marys

The Van Wert boys’ tennis team had another good outing, downing St. Marys 4-1 in a Western Buckeye League match to stay perfect across the board so far this young season.
The Cougars got match wins from all three singles players, losing only at No. 2 doubles.
Individual match results are as follows:
Van Wert’s Lane Mansfield won handily, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while No. 2 singles player Erik Yeung dispatched his Roughrider opponent 6-1, 6-2, and Brandon Amstutz won 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 3 singles position for the Cougars.
Van Wert’s No. 1 doubles team of Eli Alvarez and Nick Etter won 6-2, 6-2, while Gabe Rollins and Kory Schlatter lost 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles.
In junior varsity action, Van Wert doubles players Ryan Keber and Tryston Cowan won 6-4, 6-2, while Spencer Teman and Carter Eikenbary were also victorious, 6-4, 3-3.
With the win, the Cougars are now 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the WBL. They will travel to Lima for the Lima Invitational today and hope to continue their hot streak.
