VW boys lose to O-G in WBL tennis

The Van Wert boys’ tennis team lost to Ottawa-Glandorf 4-1 in a Western Buckeye League match played on Thursday.

In individual matches, Cougar Lane Mansfield lost to Alex Schroeder 1-6, 1-6, at No. 1 singles, wile Erik Yeung was downed by O-G’s Brandon Hempfling by the same score at No. 2 singles. Brandon Amstutz was edged by Titan player John Schroeder 4-6, 3-6 at No. 3 singles.

In doubles action, Nick Etter and Gabe Rollins lost to O-G’s Trevor and Connor Kuhlman 3-6, 6-2, 3-6 at No. 1 doubles, while Van Wert’s No. 2 doubles team of Kory Schlatter and Ryan Keber edged Jonah Vonderembse and Sammy Gable 6-2, 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-4) for the only Cougar win.

“It was a tough loss tonight,” Van Wert Coach Mitch Price said. “We are kind of in a funk, but hope to end that against Elida. The guys will bounce back and hopefully get the win tomorrow.”
