CONVOY — Although conditions were far from optimal, six meet records were broken and another tied during Tuesday’s Van Wert County Championship Track and Field Meet, held this year at the Crestview Athletic Complex.

Van Wert boys and girls both won their portions of the meet, with Lincolnview second and the host Knights third overall. Scores for the girls were Van Wert 101 points, Lincolnview 38 points and Crestview 35 points. For the boys, the Cougars were first with 75 points, while the Lancers had 59.5 points and Knights 40.5 points.

Van Wert’s Amanda Clay set a meet record in the 100-meter dash, breaking her own record with a 12.53-second performance, while teammate Alexis Dowdy set a new shot-put record (39 feet, 3 inches), and the Lady Cougars’ 4×100-meter relay team of Dominique Grothouse, Whitney Meyers, Alicia Danylchuk and Emma Kohn set a new record at 53.05 seconds.

Lincolnview’s Hannah McCleery tied the meet record in the high jump at 5 feet, 1 inch.

On the boys’ side, Van Wert’s Quincey Salcido broke the meet record in the 400-meter dash with a 51.09-second performance, while Crestview’s Mycah Grandstaff finished the 3200-meter run in 9:52.71 for a new record in that event.

Clay was a multiple event winner, with victories in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes and the long jump, while Dowdy won the shot-put and discus and was part of the Cougars’ victorious 4×200- and 4×400-meter relay teams. Van Wert’s Whitney Myers earned a win in the 300-meter hurdles and was also part of Van Wert’s winning 4×100- and 4×200-meter relay teams.

On the boys’ side, Lincolnview’s Hunter Blankemeyer won three events: 100- and 300-meter hurdles and the high jump, while teammate Bayley Tow took firsts in the 800- and 1600-meter runs.
