“Moving Water” is competition theme

The Wassenberg Camera Club’s next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at the Wassenberg Art Center.  “Moving Water” is the theme for competition in prints and slides that evening. Wassenberg members may enter a total of four 4-inch x 6-inch prints and/or four digital slides at four dollars per set. Following the competition and business portions of the meeting, Rex Dolby will make an illustrated presentation on Composition and the Elements that Contribute to a Good Photograph.

Dolby will define composition as it relates to photography, and then using visuals to illustrate his points, he will discuss the various elements that can be advantageous or detrimental to the composition depending on their characteristics. Some of the elements to be covered are: foregrounds and backgrounds, linear and aerial perspective, formal and informal balance, shadows and light, harmony, lines, and motion.

Dolby has been involved in photography since the early 1950’s and taught black and white photography and darkroom film development during his 9 years at Lincolnview High School. His work is on display at the Van Wert County Foundation, Van Wert County Court House, and Orchard Tree Restaurant. Many of his images were used in the Trinity United Methodist Church’s Directories and for special programs such as its recent 150th Anniversary Celebration.
