Velma T. Shutt

Velma T. Shutt, 87, of Van Wert, died at 4:20 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born April 26, 1927, in Payne, the daughter of the late John and Hattie (Bowers) Sprague. On May 8, 1949, in Payne, she married Gaylord W. Shutt, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include six children, Carl (Laurie) Shutt of Winston Salem, N.C., Jay (Cheryl) Shutt of Marion, Janis (John) Mathews of Van Wert, Max (Sally) Shutt of Van Wert, Nan (Kenneth) Eubank of Huntertown, Ind., Mark (Sandi) Shutt of Van Wert; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A son, Paul Shutt; one brother; and three sisters, Virginia Roberts, Samantha Cluts and Rebecca Kipfer, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, where a Rosary service will be held at 7:30 that evening.
