Sharon Joan Coleman

Sharon Joan Coleman, 80, of Canton and formerly of Van Wert, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, at The Pines Lakeside Therapy Center in Canton.

She was born January 22, 1934, in Ohio City, the daughter of the late Harry and Maude (Krugh) Thomas. She was the youngest of nine children and was raised by her aunt and uncle, the late Mirl and Opal Breece. On March 2, 1952, she married Glen Coleman, who preceded her in death on December 16, 2009.

Survivors include two children, Tim (Joyce) Coleman of Van Wert and Barbara (Dan) Shell of Canton; two sisters, Patricia Thatcher and Roanna Imogene (Roscoe) Abbott; seven grandchildren, Shane Coleman, Candra (Marcie) York Coleman, Clint (Julie) Coleman, Amy (Matthew) Cribbs, Joshua (Kristi) Shell, John (Jennifer) Shell and Alyssa (fiancé Peter Marchand) Shell; and 10 great-grandchildren, Zoe and Zander Coleman, Savannah, Bryce and Isaiah York Coleman, Gracie, Ellie and Simon Cribbs and Kolby and Noah Shell.

Five brothers, Buford, Lowell, Raymond, Harry and Donald Thomas; and a sister, Montella Coleman, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Coleman worked at Teleflex Corporation in Van Wert for 17 years. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Van Wert, where she was active in the United Methodist Women’s group and the Sixty-Five Plus group.

She was also an American Red Cross volunteer at Van Wert County Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with services officiated by Sharon’s grandson, John Shell. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

Calling hours are from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center or a charity of donor’s choice.
