The company, InterMedia 3, is leading a substantial innovative retail pilot project that is coming to Van Wert, according to Van Wert County Economic Development Director Sarah K. Smith.

The franchise, PC-ER (Personal Computer Electronic Repair), is locating at a major retailer north of Van Wert, and is looking for veterans to work with the franchise to launch an outlet there. The name of the retailer will be announced soon.

PC-ER is dedicated to recruiting, training, and then selling the franchise to veterans to own and operate.

Owner Maggie Wannemacher, who has 25 years of experience in the technology field, said she came up with the franchising idea several years ago during the height of the war in Iraq.

“I kept thinking, these men and women are fighting to protect me,” Wannemacher said. “What can I do to honor them?”

Wannemacher, a Delphos native, attended the University of Michigan, later moved on to Gannett News Services and then opened InterMedia 3 in August 1994. InterMedia 3 serves as franchisor in this endeavor. She pitched her idea to a major retailer, which liked it and initiated a pilot project. The retailer gives the veteran-owned franchise space in its stores and will soon be opening one in a retail area north of Van Wert.

“This is a wonderful tribute to our service men and women, and a solid business plan,” said Smith, who is a U.S. Air Force veteran. “Giving someone the opportunity to own their own business by providing training, opportunity, and savvy empowers them. Intermedia 3’s program creates jobs and will also provide a needed service within our community.”

Interested veterans can contact Smith at the Van Wert County Commissioner’s Economic Development Office at 419.238.6159 for more information.
