FEMA promotes lightning safety week
FEMA information
The week of June 22-28 marks the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s promotion of Lightning Safety Awareness Week – an awareness campaign to learn about the lightning hazards of summer and the preparedness actions people should take when storms threaten.
During the week, FEMA’s Region V office in Chicago will be distributing lightning safety tips as well as important information about protecting your property in a storm and staying safe while at a park or anywhere else outdoors when lightning is near.
For even more readiness information throughout the week, follow FEMA online at twitter.com/femaregion5 and facebook.com/fema. Individuals can always find valuable thunderstorm and lightning information at ready.gov/thunderstorms-lightning or download the free FEMA app, available for Android, Apple or Blackberry devices.
FEMA’s mission is to support citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation, Americans work together to build, sustain, and improve their capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
