Paul E. Shank, 89, of rural Middle Point, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

He was born June 14, 1925, in Mercer County, the son of the late Isaac and Pearl (Irelan) Shank. On June 1, 1947, he married Alice (DuVall) Shank, who survives, and with whom he recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.

American Flag for obituaries 6-2011Paul was a lifetime farmer, who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and serving his Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert. Paul was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert, and Gideons International-Van Wert Camp.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Paul Timothy (Jean) Shank of Conway, South Carolina, and Debra E. (John) Shank Thern of Millersburg; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Cecil and Elroy Shank; and four sisters, Rea Bowersock, Ethel Hesse, Minnie Yewey and Edna Taylor, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Stephen R. Savage officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 7, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Trinity Friends Church or Gideons International.
