Firefighters solicit for smoke detectors
VW independent/submitted information
When stopping by Walmart to shop the weekends of July 12, 19, and 26, look for county firefighters who will be manning the doors to accept donations from those who want to give to the “No Child Left Unprotected” smoke detector project. The project is being undertaken by all Van Wert County fire departments.
The goal of the project is to put smoke detectors in the homes of every child in Van Wert County, from birth through the 12th grade. The smoke detectors would offer protection for county children and their homes for the next decade, thanks to a special 10-year battery installed in the devices.
“We know that this endeavor is a large undertaking … and as such, are asking the Van Wert County community to partner with us in making this project a success,” said Wren Fire Chief Jackie Brandt, one of the organizers of the project. “By doing so, we will help protect the lives of the children in Van Wert County, in the event of a house fire.”
All donations to the project are appreciated, and every handful of extra change provides the ability to protect a young life.
