Paulding County murder suspect arrested

PAULDING — Defiance Police Department officers, assisted by the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Steven G. Noffsinger, 58, of Defiance, on a warrant stemming from an indictment for aggravated murder, with specification. The charge is an unclassified felony.

The arrest stems from a special grand jury session that was held Thursday in Paulding in connection with a “cold case” homicide that occurred in 1981. On November 17, 1981, Alma Noffsinger was found beaten to death inside her residence in Oakwood.

“Deputy Rob Garcia and Lt. Brion Hanenkratt have put a lot of man-hours into this cold case over the past several months, along with cold case investigators that were brought in to assist our office,” said Paulding County Sheriff Jason K. Landers. “I commend them for their dedication to see this through. I am pleased to know the healing process can start for Alma’s family.”
