The countdown to the YWCA pig races has begun. Those looking for an event the whole family can enjoy can come on down to the 2014 Van Wert Rib Fest and “ham” it up with the YWCA during its third annual Pig Races.

During the event, which will be held Saturday, August 9, at 4:30 p.m. in the covered show arena at Van Wert County Fairgrounds, six races will be held, showcasing some of the area’s most vivacious, and intensely adorable, pigs.  Each group of pigs will battle it out for first place in their heat and for bragging rights of fastest “piglet porker.” This is sure to be a fun family event, or a fun guys or girls night out!

Each race is comprised of 10 pigs, all of which have “designer” names and sponsors. Participants will have the opportunity to place a $2 wager on the pig — or pigs — of their choice; payouts will be made at the close of each race.

Those who would like to try their luck even further can find one of the YWCA volunteers at the event and purchase 50/50 tickets. All proceeds of this “pig-tacular” event will support the YWCA Transitional Living Program for the homeless, as well as the YWCA’s domestic violence services.

For more information, call 419.238.6639.
