TE to conduct developmental screenings

Thomas Edison Center information

Developmental screenings for children birth to age 5 will be offered to residents of Crestview, Delphos, Lincolnview, Parkway, Spencerville and Wayne Trace school districts. The screenings will be held from 8:30 a.m.-noon Friday, August 22, at the Thomas Edison Early Childhood Center in Van Wert.

Appointments can be made by calling the center at 419.238.1514, extension 221, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Children will be assessed on height, weight, vision, hearing, language, cognition, gross motor and fine motor skills, self-help and social-emotional skills. Results will be shared with parents or caregivers following the screened.

The assessment provides families with an opportunity to see how their child is progressing in relation to children of the same age.

If a child displays an area of concern, further assessment will be scheduled at a parent/caregiver’s convenience. The additional visit will let the teacher check for this delay in a different play environment. If a child continues to show a developmental delay at that time, the child will be invited to a play-based multi-factored evaluation session at the Thomas Edison Early Childhood Center.

The center’s mission is to provide Van Wert County families with the resources needed to help their children develop to their maximum potential. Each child is unique and capable of learning. Thomas Edison Center’s goal is to work with, and support, families in providing these active learning experiences.

For more information, contact the Thomas Edison Early Childhood Center at the above number and extension.
