Cougars struggle at Greenville tourney
Van Wert golf information
GREENVILLE — The Van Wert varsity golf team traveled to Turtle Creek Golf Course to compete in the Greenville Invitational on Thursday.
The Cougars found the golf course less than friendly, with hilly terrain, tree-lined tight fairways, 570-yard par 5s and three par 3 holes more than 210 yards long. Freshman Jared Hernandez did manage a nifty 82, but, overall, the course gave the rest of the team a long, hard day.
Other Cougar scores were Brandon Hernandez, 94; Daniel MaGowan, 107; Colton Deschner, 117; and Jacob Covey, 128.
Van Wert finished 11th out of 13 teams in the event, with Beavercreek winning the tourney with a team score of 306.
The Cougars return to action Monday at Pike Run in Putnam County for its Western Buckeye League opener against Ottawa-Glandorf.
