Local GOP to host U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan

Submitted information

U.S. Representative Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio’s Fourth District, will speak at a barbecue luncheon in Van Wert on Friday, August 22. The luncheon, sponsored by the Van Wert County Republican Central Committee, will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Wassenberg Art Center in downtown Van Wert.

Jordan, a fiscal conservative and staunch advocate for families and taxpayers, has emerged as one of Ohio’s leading Republicans. His role on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has put him in a position of prominence in the recent IRS hearings, and made him a favorite of conservative Republicans and Tea Party groups alike.

Jordan was born and raised in Champaign County and graduated from Graham High School. He holds college degrees from the University of Wisconsin, the Ohio State University and a law degree from Capital University Law School in Columbus.

A fiscal conservative, Jordan believes that people themselves, not the government, know how best to make decisions with their money. In Congress, Jordan has established himself as a steadfast defender of taxpayers’ pocketbooks through his work on spending issues. In 2009, he introduced the only balanced budget alternative to President Obama’s budget, while in the 112th Congress, he served as the chairman of the House Republican Study Committee, the largest caucus of conservatives, advancing conservative ideas and solutions on Capitol Hill.

Congressman Jordan also serves on the Budget Committee, the Judiciary Committee and the House Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi.

This is the local GOP’s first function held at Wassenberg Art Center (the former Van Wert Armory), 214 S. Washington St. in Van Wert.

Tickets for the luncheon (catered by Gibson’s Barnyard Barbecue) are $8 per person, and may be purchased from members of the Van Wert County Republican Central Committee, or officers Martin Burchfield, Thad Lichtensteiger, Gary Corcoran and Linda Stutz. Tickets are also available from Rev. Keith Stoller of the Heart Land Patriots.
