Cougar golfers lose close one to Shawnee

The Cougar golf team shot a season-low 178 at Willow Bend Country Club, but Shawnee erased a one-stroke advantage at the end when the Indians’ sixth man carded a 44 to tie the match at 178 all. With a fifth man tiebreaker, Shawnee edged the Cougs 45 to 53 to win the Western Buckeye League match.

Van Wert’s Brandon Hernandez was match medalist with a 39, while Jared Hernandez shot a 42 for runner-up honors. Other Cougar scores are as follows: Gabe Rollins, 46; Daniel MaGowan, 51; Jacob Covey, 53; and Carter Eikenbary, 54.

Shawnee scores are as follows: Ty Reynolds, 44; Alex Boone, 44; Ian Hasting, 45; Jake Shively, 45; Jacob Good, 45; and Nick Guerrero, 50.

Van Wert is now 1-1 in the WBL and 2-1 overall, while the Indians are also 2-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.
