Knight’s Grandstaff wins St. John’s meet

DELPHOS — The Crestview varsity boys’ and girls’ cross country teams opened up their 2014 season at the Delphos St. John’s Blue Jay Invitational on Saturday.

The girls competed in the first race and placed eighth out of 10 teams. The Lady Knights were paced by freshman Ashley Bowen, who finished sixth in a time of 21:40. Other scoring finishers for Crestview were Leslie Skelton, 24th in 23:45; Hali Finfrock, 50th in 25:58; Nevada Smith, 68th in 27:34; and Meghan Sherman, 69th in 27:56.

The Crestview boys placed fourth in a 14-team field. Mycah Grandstaff was the individual champion of the meet in a time of 16:39. He was followed by teammates Branden Clayton, 18th in 18:57; Charles Thornburg, 21st in 19:07; Cody Mefferd, 33rd in 19:54; and Adam Saylor, 37th in 20:10.

Crestview will race next Saturday at the Columbus Grove Invitational.
