VW golfers 7th at Defiance tournament

DEFIANCE — The Cougar Golf team traveled to Eagle Rock Golf Course early Saturday morning to participate in a 15-team invitational hosted by Western Buckeye League foe Defiance.

Van Wert turned in its best 18-hole score on the year with a 367, good for seventh place out of 15 schools.

Individually, Jared Hernandez tied for fifth place with an 81, shrugging off an early quadruple bogey to finish with four birdies on the day. Jacob Covey also had a good day, scoring his best round of the year and figuring into the varsity scoring for the first time.

The Cougars will next be in action at 4:30 p.m. this Tuesday, September 2, as Elida travels to Van Wert for a WBL dual match.
