WAPAKONETA — The Lady Lancer golf team traveled to Wapakoneta last evening to take on the Lady Redskins in non-conference action.

Wapakoneta Country Club hosted the two teams on a super night to play golf.  The Western Buckeye League power was too much for the younger Lancer contingent as Wapak prevailed by a 203-214 score.

The Lancers put the pressure on the Redskins in the first four ball match as junior Mikenna Klinger fired a match medalist best 45.

She was followed by sophomore Makenzie Kraft’s 54.The two-ball total bested the one-two punch of Sierra Sammons and Haley Kinstle.

They were three shots behind the Lancer duo as they posted scores of 47 and 53 respectively.

Sophomore Macala Ashbaugh posted her career best round of 53 to keep pace with Redskins Abbie Cottle’s 56. Lancer freshman Marissa Miller tallied a 63 with her opponent, Emily Klopfenstein, firing a 58. The Lancers only trailed by one at this point with two players to go.  Wapakoneta’s depth prevailed against Lancer sophomores McKenzie Davis and Madison Shepherd. Davis (63) and Shepherds (68) improved the Lancer team total to 214, but a pair of 50s lowered the Redskin score to 203.

With the win, the Redskins move to 9-1 in dual matches while the Lancers drop to 0-2. Lincolnview will take on the Allen East Mustangs and Parkway Panthers In a make-up match on Tuesday and will host Allen East and Minster on Monday at Hickory Sticks Golf Club.
