WAPAKONETA — The Van Wert varsity golf team traveled to Wapakoneta Country Club on Monday and came up short by eight strokes, 169-177.

Drew Waymen of Wapak finished as medalist with a 1-over-par 37. Close behind was Van Wert senior Brandon Hernandez with his best nine-hole round of the year, a 39. Jared Hernandez finished third with a 41, while sophomore Gabe Rollins had a 44, which is his best nine-hole round of the year.

The Cougars finished the Western Buckeye League regular season at 2-7 and will head into Thursday’s league tournament at Willow Bend Country Club in eighth place. Play begins at 8:30 a.m.
