Knights down Cougars in volleyball

CONVOY — The Crestview Knights and Van Wert Cougar volleyball teams both had 10 wins as they went head-to-head last night, but the Lady Knights got the hard-fought win with a tough four-game victory over the Cougars at Ray Etzler Gymnasium.

Crestview started strong against the Cougars, winning the first set 25-15. Van Wert recovered quickly, though, and won the second set in like manner, 25-13. Then the teams settled down for two tough games that would decide the victory.
The Knights won the both games, by scores of 25-21 and 25-23, but there were a number of ties and momentum shifts during both games.
Statistic leaders for Crestview include Megan Hartman (20/21 with an ace) and Claire Zaleski (three aces) in serving, Courtney Trigg (19 kills), Hartman (eight kills), and Brady Guest (six kills) in hitting, Mackenzie Riggenbach (16 assists) and Guest (17 assists) in setting, and Tianna Rager (12) and Haley Helm (10) in digs.
For Van Wert, stats leaders include Alexa Dunlap (18/21 with six aces), Megan Spray (17/20 with one ace) and Landrie Koontz (11/13 with three aces) in serving; Dunlap (eight kills), Koontz (seven kills) and McKenzie Collins (six kills) in hitting; Riley Jones (18) and Dunlap (17) in digs; Peyton Fleming, with 16 assists; Alexis Dowdy and Fleming, with three blocks each; and Jones, 29 of 30 in serve reception attempts.
Crestview will play Paulding today in Northwest Conference volleyball, while the Cougars will host the Bath Wildkittens in Western Buckeye League action.
