Cows and Plows
Local students had the chance to learn about how food gets from “Soil to Spoon” during Tuesday’s Cows to Plows event held at the Van Wert County Fairgrounds. The event teaches students about several agribusiness-related areas, including water and soil quality, crop and livestock production, GPS and other farm technology, farm history, and processing and marketing. Sponsors of this year’s event include Advanced Biological Marketing, Ag Credit, Cooper Farms Cooked Meats, D&D Ingredient, Van Wert County Farm Bureau, 4-H Council, Heritage Farm Equipment, Kennedy-Kuhn Inc., Lincolnview Young Farmers, Maumee Watershed Conservancy District, Save-A-Lot, the county Solid Waste Management District, Van Wert SWCD, Wrenco Trophy & Sportswear and the Lincolnview and Crestview FFA chapters. Here, students from Kathy Fleming’s fourth-grade class at Van Wert Elementary School learn about livestock production from local dairy farmer Dennis McCoy. (Dave Mosier/Van Wert independent)
