VW girls loses heartbreaker to Bluffton

The Van Wert girls’ tennis team lost a heartbreaker to Bluffton, 3-2, in non-conference action held Tuesday at the Van Wert County Foundation Tennis Complex.
Van Wert’s No. 1 singles player Ali Moreland defeated opponent Maggie Fett by forfeit, while the Cougars’ No. 2 singles player, Hannah Stemen, lost to Lady Pirate Lucie Fett 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. Van Wert’s No. 3 singles player, Sydney Felger, also lost to Bluffton’s Justine Mitchell, 7-6 and 6-1, but the Cougars’ No. 1 doubles team of Felger and Katie Trittschuh defeated Katie Wright and Julliana Hotmire of Bluffton 6-2, 3-6 and 6-3.
That left it up to Van Wert’s No. 2 doubles team to decide the match. Unfortunately, Van Wert’s Phoebe Eutsler and Jess Agler lost to Sara Bertka and Brielle Hamilton of Bluffton 6-0, 6-3.
Van Wert is now 1-13 on the year, while Bluffton goes to 8-4 overall.
