Cougar golfers end season at sectionals

KALIDA — The Van Wert Cougar golf team traveled to Kalida to play in the opening round of the Division II sectional golf tournament on Thursday.

The Cougars’ score of 379 was good for eighth place out of 12 teams, but prevents Van Wert from moving on to district tournament play.

Freshman Jared Hernandez shot an 81 to lead the Cougars and missed forcing a playoff for the final individual spot by two strokes.

Advancing to district was Liberty-Benton, Bath, and Kenton. Medalist for the event was an even par 72 carded by St. Marys senior Carter Bowman.

Congratulations to senior captain Brandon Hernandez, who started every match for the Cougars during his four-year high school career.
