Marlins compete at Halloween tourney

WAPAKONETA — On Saturday, the Van Wert Marlins opened their winter season with a road trip to Wapakoneta to compete in the Wapakoneta YMCA Halloween Invitational.

On hand were 365 swimmers from 14 area YMCAs in one of the larger meets of the season.

There were two swimmers with a top three finish in individual events for the Marlins. Jayden Welker took third in 9-10 Boys 100-yard individual medley and Katie McVaigh finished second in the 13-14 Girls 50-yard freestyle.

9-10 Girls: Karis Holloway – 13^th 100 Free; 22^nd 50 Back; 23^rd 50 Breast; 26^th 50 Free. Kennedy Sites – 24^th 100 Free; 31^st 50 Back; 36^th 50 Free,

9-10 Boys: Jayden Welker – 3^rd 100 IM; 6^th 100 Free; 7^th 50 Free; 11^th 50 Breast.

11-12 Girls: Emma Pollock – 4^th 50 Free; 5^th 100 IM; 6^th 50 Fly and  50 Breast.

11-12 Boys: Ian Rex – 5^th 200 Free; 9^th 100 Free; 12^th 50 Back. Rickie Welker – 9^th 50 Back; 11^th 50 Free; 13^th 100 Free.

13-14 Girls: Katie McVaigh – 2^nd 50 Free; 4^th 200 Free. Risa Pollock – 6^th 200 Free and 100 Back; 9^th 50 Free and 100 Free.

13-14 Boys: Aaron Stant – 11^th 200 Free and 100 Back; 13^th 100 Free; 14^th 50 Free.

15 & Over Girls:  Jessica Calvelage – 24^th 50 Free; 27^th 100 IM.

RELAYS:  15 & Over Boys 200 Free Relay (Jayden Welker, Rickie Welker, Ian Rex, Aaron Stant) finished 4th. 15 & Over Girls 200 Free (Emma Pollock, Risa Pollock, Katie McVaigh, Jessica Calvelage) finished 8^th.
