The board also welcomed, and recognized, several student and staff guests, including Layken Klinger, Hannah Leary and Olivia Leary, Crestview’s FFA farm business management team that recently finished eighth in the nation, along with FFA advisor Paul Pohlman; and cross country runner Mycah Grandstaff, who recently competed at the state cross country meet, along with his coach, Jeff Bagley.

Saying goodbye to a valued member of the Crestview staff, board members recognized custodian Bud Walls for his upcoming retirement. Walls was feted with a plaque and a cake in appreciation of his long service to the district.

Also retiring is elementary teacher Cindy Perkins after 35 years with the district. Her retirement will go into effect following the 2014-2015 school year. The board also recognized her service and dedication.

As was discussed previously, Crestview Treasurer Ashley Whetsel noted that there will be no collection of the emergency operating levy per an agreement by the board. The tax revenues were not needed this year because of additional revenues from wind farms and the Robert P. Mone power plant located in the district.

In other action, the board also:

  • Employed Hall of Fame Crestview boys’ basketball coach Ray Etzler as an eighth grade boys’ volunteer coach, effective the 2014-15 season.

  • Approved an amended compensation schedule for the 2014-2015 Resident Educator Program
  • Accepted a $47 donation from Clark’s pharmacy.
  • Went into executive session to discuss personnel items, with no action taken afterwards.
  • Honored Dave Mosier of the Van Wert independent and Ed Gebert of Times Bulletin Media with placement on the 2014 Media Honor Roll and thanked them both for their exemplary reporting.

The next regular meeting of the Crestview Board of Education will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, December 15, in the district boardroom.
