VW swimmers dominate WBL tri-meet

LIMA — On Saturday, the Van Wert High School boys and girls swim teams traveled to the Lima YMCA to compete with Elida, Lima Bath and St. Marys Memorial. The meet was scored as a triple dual.

The Cougar boys successfully defeated all three other schools by the following scores: Lima Bath 104-27, St. Marys Memorial 103-32 and Elida 102-52. The Cougar girls were also victorious over the other three teams: Elida 137-65, St. Marys Memorial 135-68, and Lima Bath 142-53.

Other boys’ results were St. Marys over Lima Bath 53-35, St. Marys over Elida 71 – 46, and Elida over Lima Bath 71-39. Girls’ results were St. Marys over Lima Bath 87-67, St. Marys over Elida 82 – 80, and Elida over Lima Bath 84-369.

Varsity Van Wert swimmers placing first overall included Hannah Stemen (50 freestyle), Katie Trittschuh (100 freestyle and 100 backstroke), Peyton Fleming (100 breaststroke), Tyler Rex (200 individual medley and 100 freestyle), Josh Overholt (50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke), Kory Schlatter (100 backstroke), Sam Easley (200 freestyle and 200 butterfly), the boys 200 medley relay (Kory Schlatter, Cade Fleming, Tyler Rex, Sam Easley),  the boys 200 freestyle relay (Sam Easley, Joe Linser, Nathan Ireland, Josh Overholt), boys 400 freestyle relay (Cade Fleming, Nathan Ireland, Tyler Rex, Josh Overholt), girls 400 freestyle relay (Katie Trittschuh, Haley Richardson, Bethany Fast, Hannah Stemen) and the girls 200 freestyle relay (Bethany Fast, Madison Turnwald, Mackenzie Agler, Peyton Fleming).

Junior varsity members also earning first place overall include the girls 200 medley relay (Emma Verville, Madison Pauquette, Meagan Jacobs, Jaycie Rickard), Jaycie Rickard (100 freestyle), Madison Turnwald (100 backstroke), Meagan Jacobs (100 breaststroke) and Stephen Hamblett (100 breaststroke).

The Cougar Swim Team will travel next Saturday, to the Lima YMCA , to compete in the Annual Holiday Invitational.
