First baby of 2015 announced at VWCH

For the Obstetrics Department at Van Wert County Hospital, the arrival of the first baby born of the New Year is always an exciting time.

“The New Year is a symbol of renewal and what could be better than welcoming a new baby,” said Sammi Joseph, director of acute care and obstetrics. “We look forward to sharing this special moment with our families and babies each year.”

To their amazement, Sarah and Kody Johnson gave birth to the Van Wert County Hospital’s first baby of 2015. They welcomed their son, Phoenix Johnson, into the world at 12:36 a.m. Thursday, January 1. Dr. Carrie Huber delivered the baby, who weighed 8 pounds and measured 19 inches long. His siblings, Zaelynn Tobias, Natalie and Kade Johnson and Legend Sites, welcomed Phoenix.

For having the first baby of the year, the couple received a gift basket valued at over $500 worth of gifts from area businesses. Generous supporters include Fresh Imprints Subsidiary Company of Amy Holdgreve Photography, Ann Edgell, Betty’s Medical Massage Therapy, Citizens National Bank, Gaylord E. Leslie Wellness Center, Maurices, Northwest Ohio Welch Trophy, TWIG III-Van Wert County Hospital Gift Shop, Van Wert Federal Savings Bank, Van Wert Cinemas, Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert Manor, The Times-Bulletin, WERT/WKSD Radio and Wild Willy’s.

The couple was very appreciative for the basket they received. Van Wert County Hospital would also like to thank the generous individuals and businesses who contributed to the 2015 Van Wert County Hospital New Year’s Baby. Congratulations to the new parents!
