Developmental screenings announced
Thomas Edison Center information
Developmental screenings for children ages birth to 5 years will be offered to residents of Crestview, Delphos, Lincolnview, Parkway, Spencerville and Wayne Trace school districts. The screenings will be held from noon-3:30 p.m. Friday, January 16, at the Thomas Edison Early Childhood Center in Van Wert.
Appointments can be made by calling the Edison Early Childhood Center at 419.238.4019 or 419.238.1514, extension 221, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Children will be assessed for height, weight, vision, hearing, language, cognition, gross and fine motor skills, self-help and social-emotional skills. After the screening, results will be shared with parents or caregivers.
This assessment gives families the opportunity to see how their children are progressing in comparison to children of the same age.
If children display an area of concern, further assessment will be scheduled at the parents’ convenience. The additional assessment will let teachers check for a delay in a different play environment. If a child continues to show a delay at that time, the child will be invited to a play-based multi-factored evaluation session at Thomas Edison Early Childhood Center.
The center’s mission is to provide Van Wert County families with the resources needed to help their children develop to their maximum potential. Each child is unique and capable of learning. Thomas Edison’s goal is to work with, and support, families in providing active learning experiences.
