Lichtensteiger new county GOP chair

The Van Wert County Republican Central Committee met in special session Thursday night for a “changing of the guard”.

Due to the appointment of GOP Central Committee Chair Martin Burchfield to the Common Pleas judgeship, Burchfield was required to step down from the party position he has held for nearly 20 years.

The committee voted to appoint Vice Chairnan Thad Lichtensteiger as the new Republican chairman for Van Wert County. Jarret Hammons, who represents Middle Point on the GOP Central Committee, was appointed to the position of vice chairman.

Several vacancies on the committee were also filled.

During the meeting, the Republican Central Committee also reviewed the upcoming primary election and started planning for the 2015 election year.
