City firefighter completes probation

Van Wert Fire Chief Jim Steele announced Thursday that city Firefighter Brock Profit has completed his one-year probationary period and received his permanent appointment with the Van Wert Fire Department as a firefighter, effective January 6.

Profit is the son of Terry and Vicki Profit and a 2009 graduate of Lincolnview High School. He previously attended the University of Northwestern Ohio. Profit started as a reserve firefighter in January 2013 and was hired full-time in January of last year.

Profit is a certified Level 2 firefighter, a nationally registered EMT, and is trained to the operations level of hazardous materials handling.

During his probationary period, he has responded on more than 300 emergency runs and completed over 600 hours of additional fire and EMS training. He completed the Ohio Fire School Specialized Rescue Technician Course, which encompasses advanced extrication techniques, high angle rope rescue, water rescue, trench rescue and confined space rescue.  He also has a pilot’s license.

Profit resides in the city, and remains active in the family business of Profit and Sons Farms. He recently announced his engagement to Briana Mercer.
