Colder temps coming soon to county?
Van Wert independent
After some brutally cold temperatures, the weather has returned to more seasonal temperatures the past week or so, and that should continue for at least most of this week. However, colder temperatures are just around the corner.
According to Van Wert Emergency Management Director Rick McCoy, the county will likely see near normal, or above normal temperatures for most of the week, with a high of 39 today, with a chance of light rain and snow flurries. Snow could continue into the evening today, but light accumulation is forecast, mostly because of the above-freezing temperatures seen most of the day.
Wednesday should get closer to that freezing mark, with a high of 33 and a low of 24, with light accumulations of snow possible.
Thursday and Friday are likely to be fair or partly cloudy, with a high on Thursday of 32 and a low of 23, while Friday should warm up a bit. McCoy says Friday should see a high of 36 and a low of 28.
The weekend could see more snow on both Saturday and Sunday, with a high of 37 Saturday and a low of 24, McCoy noted. Sunday should see a gradual cooling off, with a high of 30 and a low of 16. Next Monday’s high should be approximately 24, with snow showers possible.
The weather pattern early this week should keep arctic cold from keeping a steady grip in the Midwest, New England and portions of the mid-Atlantic.
Highs should be 10-20 degrees higher in those areas than they were earlier in January, according to forecasters at weather website Accuweather.com.
Cold air will expand southward and westward beginning later next week, according to the website.
“We expect warmth to build into northwestern Canada during the latter part of January, and this will force colder air to push southward into more of the United States,” said Accuweather Long Range Forecast Expert Robert Pastelok.
Temperatures during the latter part of January and into early February will average below normal a substantial amount of time for most of the area east of the Rockies.
